From UA to GA4(?)
On the 1st of July 2023, we transitioned to GA4 or did we? Currently, in some properties data is still being tracked. We’ll see how long until the transition is complete. In the meantime, if you need to discuss setting up GA4, get in touch!
Google’s core advice has not changed
For two decades, Google has proffered the same advice to SEOs and anyone working on their own website. Write helpful content for your audience, answer their queries, and provide an expert view on your specialty. This is great core advice to follow, that and not leveraging black hat SEO techniques and you’ll be fine.
Google steals data for Bard
Google have been accused of stealing data from their products like Google Docs and Sheets to improve their AI tool. The Daily Mail are also looking to sue the company for stealing writing from them. This is interesting, we’re seeing very few restrictions on AI so far despite the fact it’s supposed to take over many jobs. A balance certainly needs to be struck for AI tools and the data they use.
Ranking volatility
There was some volatility in rankings around the 16th of July which we might be seeing reflected in ranking right now. There’s no need to panic during times like this. Some rankings dropping mean others you might not even be tracking are going up.
Google Business Profiles FAQ automation
It seems Google is adding an automated FAQ creation feature to Business Profiles. Taking information from your listing and website, it will create FAQs you can answer for people viewing your profile. This will be extremely useful as businesses can streamline answering the same questions over and over.
Google categories reviewers
Google has been categorising reviewers to boost particular reviews to different users. E.g. reviews from solo travellers or couple travellers.
Google Digital Garage combines with Skillshop
A bunch of training courses on Analytics, Ads, and even YouTube monetization are now all available on Skillshop. These are great courses if you’re looking to improve your digital skills.
Threads launch
On the 6th Threads launched with a competitive 100 million signups. Using the Instagram UI, users can make threads and add comments to keep the thread going. It’s a combination of Twitter and Reddit, with the feeling of a big group chat, Meta style. The launch has caused a legal tiff between Zuckerberg and Musk which could culminate in a boxing match at the Colleseum. We’ll see if that happens or not.
Meta improves Reels content creation
Meta has put in the work to improve creating content via their Reels tool. They aim to make it easier for people to join in with trends and edit their content. Improvements like this are always welcome. Another improvement is for reach as Instagram Reels will be shown on Facebook.
From Twitter to X
Twitter CEO, Linda Yaccarino, and Elon Musk recently announced that Twitter will be changing from Twitter to X. Tweets will now be called X’s. We’re not sure about this update and shows the platform is still in flux. We’ll keep monitoring it for now but right no we wouldn’t recommend focusing on the platform.
These headlines were collected from various articles found via The Search Herald.
