The team at Fandango Digital, is constantly being asked by clients whether they would benefit organically by changing their top level domain (TLDs). The ‘new’ TLDs started to be released a few years ago, with around 1,200 versions already available and another 1,900 on the waiting list.
Some examples of new TLDs are: .agency .jobs .digital
On 15th June, in a Google Hangout (approx. 12:45 minutes in), Google confirmed that keywords in TLDs are not a ranking factor and are completely ignored by Google.
This confirms our response, that we wouldn’t recommend a TLD change for SEO purposes, however if there is a business case to support a change, you won’t be negatively affected if you have a website migration strategy in place.
