What a year 2020 has proven to be! It was a welcome relief to dive into something we know and love, the bi-annual Brighton SEO conference. Like everything else this year it had to adapt to the ‘new normal’ and the conference, which usually attracts up to 4000 attendees, took place online.
They say digital marketers are great problem solvers. Well, hats off to Brighton SEO for running the event without a hitch!
Brighton SEO is always an important date in our calendars here at Fandango HQ. So, we blocked out the entire day to attend the conference from the comfort of our desks. Of course, it just wouldn’t be a conference without a few snacks and treats! Directors Hannah and Carla didn’t disappoint with a great spread for the team. Here are some of our highlights from the day:
Counting Dolly’s and 5 Star Reviews
There was a brilliant presentation by Daisy from Digitool about how to get more 5 star reviews on Google. Taking the term star.. 5 star.. who is the biggest star? Daisy decided to make her talk Dolly Parton themed, which made for brilliant screenshots such as the one below.
Yes, you might need to read that again – people are 270% more likely to purchase a product with a 5-star review! This, paired with the fact that review ratings are the biggest driver for clicks in local SERPs, has certainly ignited our passion for getting lots more reviews for our clients.
All Things Technical
From crawl budgets, robots.txt files to access logs, our notebooks are full to the brim with new ideas to help us get the best performance out of our websites. The talk by Faisal Anderson summarises this technique wonderfully, we are fundamentally spying on Google to make sure it faces no problems whilst indexing our content.
Changes in Featured Snippets
In the same way we constantly look to improve the user experience on our client’s websites, Google and other search engines are doing the same. So, it was no surprise to hear that Google has almost doubled the number of featured snippets and universal results in 2020. Which gives us all the more opportunity to showcase your brand to new customers, hurrah!
It has been another brilliant conference for the whole team, albeit from the socially distanced comfort of our office. We look forward to the next one in spring where (dare we say it), we hope to physically meet again. Want to stay on top of the latest SEO news and techniques?
