Earlier this year, our team set ourselves the goal of completing a Tough Mudder course and we did just that… with some causalities. Keep reading for our Tough Mudder journey.
After setting ourselves this tricky task we needed to think about physical training. Note the keyword “think.” We thought we’d all go much harder in our training, but we were all too relaxed. This is a major foreshadowing of how Tough Mudder went down…
Making training fun
To ease us into training we traveled to the New Forest and had a crack at the inflatable water course early in the Summer. Anchored on a lake in the middle of the forest, this tested our upper body strength, balance, climbing skills, and our swimming abilities. This was a blast and gave us a taste of challenging assault courses. We were lucky not to sustain any injuries at this event just the embarrassment of slipping and sliding around and taking sudden dips in the water.

The day arrives and disaster strikes
Before we knew it, Tough Mudder was upon us. With no training time left, we just had to pray to a higher being that we’d make it. After warming up (in the boiling sun, mid-heatwave) we set off and completed the first obstacle. We had to scrabble across the scratchy, dry grass dodging barbed wire, without a squelch of mud in sight!
Running round to the next section we were greeted by 7-10ft walls we needed to scale. Dan got into positions to spring the others over the wall, he popped into a wall squat and cupped his hands to use as footwells. Then disaster struck…
The Tough Mudder experience
All-in-all, it was a great experience but one we can all draw a line under and say we’ve done and won’t be in a rush to repeat the ordeal.

If you’re thinking of taking on the challenge of Tough Mudder, we really recommend it! It’s not as tough as it looks and sounds. It makes for great team building and completing such a hard challenge boosted our mental well-being.
