What Changed in SEO in September 2022?
Google’s latest core update
September saw Google focus its attention on content with a new core update the “Helpful Content Update”. They want websites to be publishing useful content that helps the users. This will put an end to writing content just to rank for certain keywords and work the rankings.
Google is looking for quality content that helps searchers. This includes blogs, news articles, page content and even reviews or testimonials. All of these elements will contribute to a trustworthy and authoritative site that will rank in search.
Part of this also included a focus on user experience. Google wants search marketers and developers to improve page speed and Core Web Vitals.
The crux of the message is to write and include content on your site that is written for humans, not search engines. At Fandango we’re always researching, writing, editing and auditing our client’s content to make sure that we’re providing helpful content to their customer bases.
A new featured snippet feature
This feature appears as a star next to the search result snippet. Clicking on it will open a “more like this” box. This could be a great feature for appearing next to competitors or for secondary keywords. We’ll have to see if this one sticks; Google are serial testers of new features and some don’t make the cut in the end.
GA4 & enhanced measurement for Form interactions
Google added an enhanced measurement option for form interactions called ‘form_start’. This will measure the first time a user interacts with a form in a session and when a new user has started a form. This is great for businesses whose main online goal is to drive form completions.
